Creek's Wolves at the door
TweetMITCH Creek's Minnesota Timberwolves were at the door of an NBA Summer League championship today but the Memphis Grizzlies slammed it shut, winning 95-92.
The NBL's "People's Choice" 2018 MVP led from the front again with 13 points at 80 percent, including 1-of-1 triples, with four rebounds and two assists in 26:28 of on-court action.
The Grizzlies' tournament MVP Brandon Clarke made it a personbal sweep, adding the championship game's Most Valuable Player award with his third consecutive double-double of 15 points, 16 rebounds, plus four assists and three blocks.
Memphis jumped out to a 56-40 lead by halftime after seizing control early but Minnesota bounced back with a 30-16 third period courtesy of three threes from Kelan Martin.
With 2:03 left in the game, the Grizzles again looked safe, ahead by 10.
Enter Creek. The Aussies swingman inspired a 9-0 outburst, his crosscourt pass to Keita Bates-Diop for a 3-pointer slicing the lead to one with 24 seconds left.
Down three, the Timberwolves had a chance to tie but Martin's triple missed.
Creek's Summer League performance as a team leader and his ability to stick the threeball, long a problem area, only enhanced his chances of landing an NBA contract in 2019-20.
