Mitsubishi back in NBL driver's seat

HAVE you been following the NBL long enough to remember the "Mitsubishi Challenge"? It was some 23 years back when the motoring giant backed the game for almost a decade in Australia and - like Hungry Jack's - it is back on board as a major partner of our burgeoning league.

According to the NBL, Mitsubishi Motors Australia, the award winning car manufacturer, will be visible across the basketball landscape all year round after aligning with the Coles Express NBL1 earlier this year.

“The magnitude of this partnership can’t be understated,” NBL CEO David Stevenson said.

“Mitsubishi is a global powerhouse in the automotive industry and its commitment to the NBL is a credit to the growing strength of our competition locally, and around the globe.

“Off the back of record attendances, TV viewership, and digital engagement, the NBL has never been in a better position, on and off the court.

“High-level commercial partnerships like this one with Mitsubishi will only help advance the NBL’s growth, both domestically and internationally.”

Mitsubishi Motors Australia is part of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, based in Tokyo, Japan, and was a major partner of basketball and the NBL for nine years beginning in the early 1990s.

“After 23 years, it is exciting for Mitsubishi Motors Australia to be returning to basketball as the major partner for the NBL,” Mitsubishi Motors Australia CEO Shaun Westcott said.

“As the sport continues to grow and the League goes from strength to strength, we are delighted to be on the upwards trajectory with the NBL, together innovating and looking for opportunities to grow.”

The 2023-24 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season tips off on Thursday, September 28 with a Throwdown as  Melbourne United hosts the South East Melbourne Phoenix at John Cain Arena.
