B&B: Boomer Bevo in the Green-and-Gold
ROB Beveridge will take the reins of Australia's Boomers next month for FIBA World Cup qualifiers against Chinese Taipei and Japan so Brad Rosen and I swooped on the chance to revisit one of our favourite interviewees and great coaches for this week's Brad&Boti podcast. Hear how it all came about, and so much more.
Boomers scrap past Flyers, sink Lynx: WNBL
THE WNBL burst back into live action this week, despite the absence of several name players from teams, Perth into the winners' column and Melbourne staking its claim for top spot, staving off a desperate Southside before holding out the Lynx, Tess Madgen back.
Bob's Corner: Patty finally dumps the slump
BOB'S CORNER: Star Aussie guard Patty Mills found his touch once again and was much better in Thursday's 138-112 win over Chicago by his Brooklyn Nets - 21 points in 22 minutes off the bench, including 6-of-8 from behind the arc. Where was this the last several games?
Taylor-made to phill in phor Phoenix
THEY'RE definitely NOT playing ring-a-ring-a-rosey at South East Melbourne but tomorrow against the Bullets in Brisbane, Steve Taylor Jr will suit up instead of Brandon Ashley, who the Phoenix signed to replace Devin "Who?" Thomas. COVID has opened the door for some much-needed NBL quick-signing player relief.
NBL takes a punt on 'Magnificent 7'
SEVEN NBL matches this round to re-energise a season floundering through COVID-related postponements, is another case of magnificent optimism which, hopefully for all of us, bears fruit. There would be little better than the 2021-22 season finally getting going again.
B&B: Imagine Madgen chattin' - We talk to Tess
WE love a good in-depth interview at our Brad&Boti podcasts and Melbourne's Tess Madgen - that rare commodity of a Boomer AND an Opal - is all that and more as she joins Brad Rosen and me to talk about the trip from the Barossa Valley to Tokyo, with many of the stops along the way.
Lynx to iron out kinks: WNBL
WITH three matches in six days as the WNBL seeks to restore its coronavirus-hit 2021-22 season, the Perth Lynx will have a series of opportunities to iron out a few kinks, albeit against three teams most are touting as likely to make up 75 per cent of the Final Four.
Double NBA anniversary for big Dolph
BOB CRAVEN: For those of us who like and/or who remember some of the NBA’s early stars, today (January 12) gives us a “twofer” of an anniversary date in pro basketball history for one of its great early players.
TOTW Rd6: What happened to 4 and 5?
OK. No real surprises here. The NBL Round 6 "Team of the Week" was our easiest of the season to select. That tends to happen when COVID cuts the schedule to only one game. But with the coronavirus responsible for kicking out Rounds 4 and 5, we knew NBL fans would be chomping at the bit to hear the news.
Break through at last for the NBL
IT didn't matter if you were not a Brisbane fan or not even a New Zealander. Just seeing the NBL back on air with a scheduled game actually able to go ahead was a treat for those of us starved of entertaining basketball. And for this to end on such a clutch note with Finn Delany free throws also made it special.
