PHAB PHOENIX duo Mitch Creek and Ryan Broekoff now will be missing from the NBL PreSeason Blitz when it tips off in Darwin on Friday, both recovering from minor injuries. And the Opals are 1-1 in pre-World Cup practice matches against Puerto Rico and China, with the championship in Sydney just over a week from tip-off.

THE NBL's preaseason tournament returns to Darwin for the third time, tipping off on Friday with its "Blitz" series after previous "Top End Challenges" won by the Hawks and Wildcats of old. Bird joins Larry as another legend
SEATTLE'S most successful sportsperson - the Storm's Sue Bird - yesterday closed the door on her 21-year WNBA career when the Las Vegas Aces prevailed 97-92 to clinch Game 4 of their semi final series, advancing to the Finals with a 3-1 success. Bird left her home floor with 11,328 fans chanting "Thank you Sue."
Tess to lead Opals' Cup charge
TOKYO Olympian Tess Madgen - one of a couple of fairly notable absentees from the ill-fated Rio Olympic team - today was named captain of the Opals for their charge at the FIBA World Cup and restoration of Australia's international reputation and once much-admired culture.
