Asia Cup QF: Boomers blow Philippines away

ASIA CUP MEN: Opening their Asia Cup quarter final with a "magnificent seven" straight 3-pointers, the Boomers tonight routed unpopular international opponent the Philippines 84-60, advancing to the semi final against Iran in Jeddah, playmaker Owen Foxwell stepping up to orchestrate the lopsided result.
Australia's tournament revelation Jaylin Galloway started the avalanche rolling with a triple inside the opening 15 seconds, Foxwell following that up with a 3-pointer of his own before Galloway again swished a three, the Philippines already in danger of being buried alive.
Galloway followed a made free throw with his third threeball swish for a 13-4 Boomers buffer at 6:20, the flailing Philippines flagging a time-out.
It made little difference, Jack McVeigh resuming with two threes in succession before Jack White nailed Australia's seventh 3-bomb for a 22-8 lead, the only additional point from Galloway's free throw.
With a further 10 points in 3:40 of action here, Galloway has been the surprise star of this show and must be exciting Sydney Kings NBL fans with what is yet to come.
Boomers captain Will Magnay (10 points at 100 per cent, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block) finally broke the 3-ball monopoly with a trademark dunk as Australia sped to a 29-12 quarter-time advantage.
Galloway hasn't been the only Boomers' bonus at the Asia Cup so far, and while Reyne Smith may have endured his first forgettable game, Will "Davo" Hickey was another who stepped up. His all-the-way flying slam dunk in the second quarter was jump-out-of-your-seat stuff.
Come the third term and it was White's turn to grab the spotlight, one particular play the stand-out. Blocking a shot at one end, he trailed up the floor to conclude the play by burying a transition 3-pointer from the top of the key.
White finished with 8 and 8 inside 18 minutes, Xavier Cooks showing off some of his defensive skills as he compiled 10 points and seven boards.
Foxwell was a constant, en route to an equal-team, high 15 points (with Galloway), plus three assists and a steal. Magnay, McVeigh, White, Cooks and Hickey all continued to show their international bona fides as the Boomers marched on into the semi finals.
