Brad&Boti: Fire up Townsville. Champs spark it 2-0

TOWNSVILLE Fire has claimed its fifth WNBL Championship after winning one of the greatest games in WNBL history, and podcast colleague Brad Rosen and I revel in their success at this week's Brad&Boti episode, with commiserations to a gallant Perth but the better club won.

After all, across the season the Fire lowered the Lynx's colours in four games out of five so there can be little dispute as to which was the better outfit in 2026.

And factor in that Townsville's second import, Lauren Cox - a 2025 award winner - was out injured for the bulk of the season and you can only conclude coach Shannon Seebohm did a masterful job throughout.

He saved his best for the best-of-three championship series though, a masterclass in preparation and execution which left the Lynx close but no cigar, yet again.

We run through that shot by Miela Sowah at the end of regulation which opened the door to overtime and a Game 2 win that sealed the championship 2-0.

How amazing was Courtney Woods? No-one on the Lynx roster could stop her. And Alicia Froling was just so focused throughout in dealing with Perth's ace, the 211cm Han Xu.

Chantel Horvat needed to grab one offensive rebound and then make the correct decision and she did just that, her pass back to Sowah for the match-tying three and a 92-92 scoreline something to savour.

The match went to overtime and the final 108-105 score reflected how good a match this was, albeit still another harsh lesson for Lynx coach Ryan Petrik on a learning curve that has been outrageously unforgiving.

He now is 0-3 in Grand Final Game 2s. Also, hear which Perth player conjures recollections of the great NBL star D-Mac, Darryl McDonald in Brad's mind's eye.

Eventually yes, we get to the NBL and the forthcoming playoff games between Perth and South East Melbourne, ahead of the knock-out final between Melbourne and Tasmania.

Who would the 36ers prefer to play in the semi finals? We do a geniune deep dive on that and there's still so much more in this week's episode.
