Brad&Boti: Hawks show the Spirit to soar
TweetWHAT a set of sizzling - though extremely different - NBL semi final Game 3s we have just witnessed but Brad&Boti podcast colleague Brad Rosen and I don't even start there, launching instead at Bendigo taking a 1-0 WNBL Grand Final lead over Townsville.
The shooting percentages were nothing to rave about and for three quarters, it was a dour slugfest, the scores locked 41-41 at the end of the third quarter.
But that's when it all changed as the Spirit's experience became a huge factor ... as did their WNBA import Veronica Burton.
Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday, with Cyclone Alfred as much of a concern as Townsville's ability to regroup to send this series into a Game 3 decider.
Was the epic 113-112 win by Melbourne over Perth in Game 3 of the NBL's semi final series the greatest single game in league history?
We have our own conclusions but the performances of Ian Clark and Chris Goulding for United, and Kristian Doolittle and Bryce Cotton for Perth will live on long in the memory.
Was Goulding right to deliberately miss that second free throw? We get into that, too.
How amazing was Trey Kell III for Illawarra in its deciding Game 3 massacre of South East Melbourne? His 26-point first half was beyond exemplary as the Hawks did everything right in front of a rabid home crowd.
Brad has extra kudos though for Phoenix coach Josh King and his grace, poise and class in the post-game press conference, which could not have been easy under the circumstances.
Yes, there's a Nagy Nasty and a Rosen Rattler to deal with too in one of our tighter shows.
