Brad&Boti: Time for a feast of Serbian soup
TweetBRAD&BOTI: The basketball at these Olympic Games finally leaves Lille, bound for Paris, and media mogul Brad Rosen and I both are revelling in the fact our Boomers and Opals made it through to the quarter-finals and twin showdowns with problematic Serbia at our Brad&Boti podcast.
This is far from the first time the Serbs have stood as Australia's hurdle to medalling but in our most recent Olympic meetings, they have been our stumble.
This time, it may well be different after both our teams made it on to the quarter-finals the hard way.
Our men did it despite losing to Greece in what was a disturbingly mediocre first half that put them 17 points behind at the interval and by 19 during the third quarter.
It was a solid fightback led by Jock Landale, Dyson Daniels and Dante Exum, until heroball again interrupted proceedings, preventing the Boomers from getting across the line.
Yet as it turned out, a three-way tie with Greece and Spain gave Australia second place in the group behind Canada. Go figure.
Then our Opals, stunned by Nigeria, turned it around against Canada, then ended the host nation's unbeaten streak in dramatic fashion behind the work of captain Tess Madgen.
The 27,000-plus French crowd did all it could to drag its team across the line, adding to the merit of the Opals' victory.
Is it time for Brian Goorjian to find more minutes for Matthew Dellavedova and Duop Reath? Should Sandy Brondello temporarily shelve the Jade Melbourne experiment and change her starters to Madgen, Sami Whitcomb, Steph Talbot, Ezi Magbegor and Alanna Smith?
Where can we go from here? The sky is the limit - or maybe potential semi finals against the USA is the limit - but that is in the future.
Right now, let's enjoy the fact our teams are into the quarters as Brad and I discuss the process at this link. Or you can also hear us via your usual podcast destinations such as Apple and Spotify.
