Best moment, 2012
TweetWHEN Lizzie Cambage caught the ball near the foul-line, drove and threw down a slam dunk, I literally jumped out of my lounge-chair.
Yes, as at any Olympics, there are a gazillion great moments, but seeing an Aussie girl I followed through her junior career at Dandenong, then on to league MVP champion at Bulleen, dunk it in London easily stands out as my 2012 sports moment.
Laconic Lizzie ambled down the lane through Russian defenders to throw down her Games' gazumper so casually, it became almost a "did that really just happen?'' moment.
But it surely did.
"Slambage'' became the first woman in the history of the Games to throw down a dunk in Olympic competition.
She did it in traffic too, not on a fast break as Americans before her - Lisa Leslie and Candace Parker - did but more as Brittney Griner might.
That's right. Cambage is only the fourth woman to dunk in a game and soon enough, the Opals superstar of the future will be battling it out against Griner on the international hardwood.
That will be something to see. But for now, what we saw in London will do, and for a long time.
