THE NBL Blitz today in Bendigo delivered several inspired individual performances, notably from Tyrell Harrison, Max Mackinnon and Taran Armstrong before Milton Doyle went "Milton the Monster" mode to savage Adelaide's hopes of opening the new Trevor Gleeson era with a victory. 

In his Illawarra Hawks debut, Doyle made it memorable by turning a foregone conclusion ending into a rich drama to be immortalised and sung around Wollongong campfires for eons to come.

The 36ers, behind a wonderful shooting night from Flynn Cameron and a fourth quarter capped by John Jenkins swishing four 3-pointers, were ahead 98-92 with 23 seconds remaining.

The Hawks took time-out but Tyler Harvey's 3-ball caught iron, Sam Froling snatching the offensive rebound and kicking it out to new face Kelan Martin who swished a three.

OK. Adelaide 98-Illawarra 95, 15 seconds left, no cause for alarm. Except ... oops, the GOTE Bryce Cotton turned the ball over near the Hawks basket, Doyle with the steal and feeding Will Hickey.

Zylan Cheatham flew to try and block Hickey's shot, called for a foul instead, 36ers still ahead 98-97, Hickey with a bonus free throw to come.

Hickey missed the freebie, Cheatham grabbing the rebound, his 16th for the night. Fouled by Froling, Cheatham had two free throws, 10 seconds on the clock. He iced his first, 36ers 99-97 now.

Mason Peatling gobbled up the defensive board when Cheatham's second free throw missed, the ball with Doyle who dribbled hard, pulling up on the right wing outside the 3-point line.

A great step-back move, he let fly and it was nothing but net for a 100-99 Illawarra lead, two seconds left and time only for a 36ers heave-and-hope.

Nope.

Pretty good way to start your first stint with your third NBL team.

Earlier, Tyrell Harrison owned the keyway for Brisbane against Tasmania, the JackJumpers down  both their bigs Will Magnay and Majok Deng.

Harrison's 28 points came on 13-of-15 shooting, plus 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block and arguably put him lut in front for the Ray Borner Medal as series MVP.

NBL legend Slammin' Sammy Mackinnon is a league champion and MVP. The man could fly. His son Max Mackinnon? He can shoot.

His 26 points came at 64 per cent, with 4-of-7 threes.

And keep an eye out for Bullets playmaker Arnas Velicka. His 10 points, 13 assists, five steals definitely augurs well.

JJ fans can relax. Tasmanian-born recruit Taran Armstrong had seven assists with his 25 points and six boards, while Nick Marshall's game also just continues to grow.
