Timms joins legends for "Bigger than basketball"

A Naismith Hall of Famer and three-time Olympian, four NBL champions, an All-Star big man, four of the most decorated, respected and colourful referees in Australian basketball history and a well-known Melbourne-based media personality are among the latest names to get behind this month’s Legends of Basketball Game for Bowel Cancer.

All will be at the State Basketball Centre in Melbourne on Saturday, February 28 when some of the all-time greats of the game gather for a special night dedicated to raising bowel cancer awareness, funding vital research and helping save lives.

All funds raised will support the Gibbs Lab at the Walter Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI), helping drive research and improve early detection.

The field for this one just keeps on growing.

• 2024 Naismith Hall of Fame inductee and three-time Olympian Michele Timms.
• NBL champions Ray Gordon, Marcus Timmons, Stephen Hoare and Robert Sibley.
• All-Star big man Andre Moore, who made a stunning impact in his first NBL season with Brisbane before stops in Hobart and Cairns.
• Long-time referee legends Eddie Crouch, Billy Mildenhall, Ray Hunt and Mal Cooper, who combined to work well over 2700 NBL games.
• Melbourne-based media personality Andrew Maher, co-host of Channel 7’s The Front Bar and The Run Home with Andrew Gaze on SEN Radio.

They join a quality line-up of former players, coaches, referees, volunteers, basketball identities, media personalities and celebrities who’ve committed to being there to support the cause.

The list so far features:
Andrew Gaze, Cal Bruton, Phil Smyth, David Andersen, Ricky Grace, Mark Bradtke, Lanard Copeland, Warrick Giddey, Darren Lucas, Andrew Parkinson, Joey Wright, Al Westover, Brad Newley, Adam Gibson, Brian Kerle, Paul Maley and Peter Hooley.

And there will be even more announcements to come next week.

For the full story, including what to expect on February 28 and to find out how you can show your support even if you can't be there on the night, visit the official event website at https://www.mycause.com.au/events/legendsofbasketballforbowelcancer

Take a look now – after all, this is for a cause much bigger than basketball.
