Foursome linked to Lightning

THE Lightning's inexplicable decision to reappoint interim coach Aja Parham-Ammar for two years after her abysmal 3-13 WNBL record last season may be baffling in the extreme but the club's recruiters have been busy, Cayla George, Kristy Wallace, Zitina Aokuso and Gemma Potter all linked to Adelaide.
Potter was enjoying a break-out WNBL season last year with Geelong Venom before suffering an ACL injury, ironically against the Lightning in Adelaide.
Worse still for the emerging young star, it is now her third ACL-interrupted preparation which, at 23, is a particularly harsh run of outs.
Potter was hurt 27 seconds from the end of regulation in Adelaide but once the clash went into overtime, Geelong had little chance, the team equally devastated by her injury blow.
Adelaide coach Kerryn Mitchell had her third win in that game for a 3-4 record before she was unceremoniously sacked by the club, Parham-Ammar brought in to go 3-13 the rest of the way.
Wallace was a member of the Bronze Medal-winning Opals team at the Paris Olympics. She also has won Bronze Medals with the Opals at the 2022 World Cup and 2021 Asia Cup and led Australia to the Gold Medal at the 2017 World Univerfsity Games.
She returns to the WNBL as a victorious member of Australia's 3X3 Asia Cup winning team in Singapore earlier this month.
A favourite of Opals coach Sandy Brondello, Mount Barker-born warrior George, 37 in May, would be returning to Lightning colours for the first time since 2010 and is likely to conclude her career in her home town.
Having won two championships at Townsville, Aokuso's last stop was in Canberra, the Capitals now also battling to retain Opals guard Jade Melbourne.
Meanwhile Lightning captain Steph Talbot has signed a new WNBA deal with Las Vegas Aces.
