Brad&Boti: Big news week as Spirit clinch crown

WHAT a week this has been, fuelling our Brad&Boti podcast with so much ball for Brad Rosen and I to disseminate, starting with Bendigo winning its third WNBL championship, closing with Tyler Harvey's game-winner and with a ton of stuff in-between, including Adam Caporn's Boomers appointment!

We've got it all covered, starting with giving full credit to the Spirit, who both of us predicted would need all three Grand Final games of the best-of-three championship series to eliminate Townsville.

That, of course, did NOT happen, Bendigo in both Game 1 and Game 2 showing the benefit of its experience in a crisis to KO the Fire 2-0 for the club's first championship in just over a decade.

Tuopees doffed to the veterans, led from the front by Sami Whitcomb and Marianna Tolo and sent into battle by one of our unsung coaching heroes in Kennedy Kereama.

This was as comprehensive a season domination as we've seen in a very long time, Bendigo coming off an 18-3 regular season with a 2-0 semi and a 2-0 grand final sweep.

Sami was adjudged the Rachael Sporn Medallist as the Grand Final Series MVP in what was a fabulous individual performance from her throughout 2024-25.

It's been a big news week too, particulary for the Kings and Sydney. First up Daniel Kickert has stepped away from his role as an assistant coach and part-owner and NBA champion Andrew Bogut has stepped into those shoes.

That is going to be very interesting indeed.

Xavier Cooks has served his ban for a cocaine infraction but how the NBL reacts is yet to be seen.

Adam Caporn is the new Boomers coach and we discuss the pros and cons of that appointment, while lauding Dean Vickerman's new "associate head coach" position with the national team, which will see him handling FIBA qualifiers and Asia Cup-type events.

How about this NBL Championship Series? Melbourne made its adjustments in Game 1 to beat Illawarra in Wollongong 96-88. Then Tyler Harvey makes the big three which clinches Game 2 in Melbourne 102-100 ... but there was still time for a pressured Chris Goulding triple attempt which did everything but go down.

What a match and series but now the impact of Shea Ili's absence (concussion protocols) will come into play. Sidebar: Is soon-to-be free agent Matthew Dellavedova worth a new three-year deal?

We work our way through it all and there's still time for a Nagy Nasty and a Rosen Rattler.

If you want to listen right now, hit this LINK or if you'd prefer to tune in later, we are on Spotify and Apple podcasts etc. as well!
