Don't despair for Aussie pair
TweetSWEATING it out in front of a TV set, waiting to hear your name called, must have been a few hours from hell for Matty Dellavedova and Brock Motum today.
When the NBA Draft finally hit pick #60 on the ESPN coverage and it was Janis Timma from Latvia who heard his name called, pretty sure their hearts would have sunk with the disappointment.
But only for a moment.
You only have to look at what these young men have achieved to date to know they will already be planning Phase Two of their NBA dream, most likely hitting the summer league circuit and then getting to a camp.
As our only No.1 draft pick Andrew Bogut said in a Herald Sun story about Delly, going undrafted is not the be-all and end-all.
"Hopefully he goes second round but it's not the end of the world if he doesn't," Bogey said.
"Europe is there and he can go and develop himself."
Brad Newley was of exactly the same opinion, having also sat through an NBA Draft not all that long ago as he revealed here: http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/basketball/andrew-bogut-believes-rising-basketball-start-matt-dellavedova-will-be-able-to-call-the-nba-home/story-fnii09gt-1226671252867
Bogut tweeted today: "Really think @matthewdelly deserves a shot. Not always flashy stat lines, but he runs the team like a true PG should! GL @ Summer L mate"
No-one should be in any doubt good times are just around the corner for Dellavedova and also for Motum.
BIG day in the NBA of course, especially with the Boston Celtics dismantling the last remnants of their 2008 championship team and trading Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets.
The Celtics get Gerald Wallace, Kris Humphries and some bogan.
Great day for New Zealand too with Steven Adams taken at No.12 by Oklahoma City Thunder, making the Rotorua seven-footer the country's highest draft pick.
Sean Marks went at 44 in 1998.
BRETT Brown's future was speculated extensively, the New York Daily News declaring he had signed to coach Philadelphia 76ers and the club within minutes disputing that, saying they had yet to interview him.
The Sixers have, however, sought and received permission from San Antonio Spurs, where Brown is an assistant, to speak with him about the coaching vacancy.
That's a hot one.
