FLASHBACK 151: NBL 1981 Media Guide
Tweet*FLASHBACKS, my irregular "lucky dip" where I just reach into my drawers of old Australian basketball stuff and transcribe or post whatever I find for you.*
Been doing some research on the NBL's early glory days and came across the league's 1981 media guide.
It amazes me that just two years after the NBL launched and St Kilda beat Canberra in the first Grand Final on the game's last shot, throughout the 1981 Guide it repeatedly is described as a match that went to overtime.
Guess what?
It didn't!
You might also be thrilled to see the guide announces the arrival of one Le Roy Loggins, repeatedly mispells Danny Morseu's name, even despite the fact he is a 1980 All Star 5 (6?) First Team selection. The guide has one of the SA competitors as Forrestville Eagles, despite the club actually being Forestville, with one "R". Meanwhile ... Danny even gets a Motseau as his surname at one stage!
Ken Richardson shrinks by an inch on the same West Adelaide page that sees Rick Hodges grow two inches in separate sections.
And see if you can spot how often Gordie McLeod appears amid the assortment of photographs.
There's also an alleged "All Star game" picture which is clearly a Newcastle versus Launceston action photo, the caption made more amusing by the fact the league never even had an All Star Game in its first two years!
Yes, as a trip down memory Lane, it is a beauty. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did..jpg)
