Further huge day in WNBL, Part 1

KENNEDY Kereama has gone the way of the last KK we had in Australian basketball as the WNBL's West Coast Waves fall under the Perth Wildcats' umbrella.

My (e)mail is Koach Kereama, who worked hard to make the Waves competitive, winning the 2014 WNBL Spring Shield, has been axed and big money will be rolling into the Wildcats' women's affiliate.

Former Perth assistant coach, Andy Stewart, is the name I'm hearing as the new coach.

The new Perth WNBL outfit is targeting two Opals, two emerging Opals and two imports.

When I asked Wildcats CEO Nick Marvin about the veracity of the rumours, he asked if this was my "April Fool's joke" ... but then you know if you came in earlier, that was posted before midday.

Nat Burton, one of Brendan Joyce's Opals "protected (from selection criticism) species", is heading back to Perth but Maddie Garrick shortly will be confirmed at Melbourne Boomers so it's not all doom and gloom there.

You'd think it was, with Bec Allen joining Rachel Jarry at the new South East Queensland club and at some point soon, we'll have to start wondering what role Joyce may be playing in his good friend Shane Heal's recruiting, Heal the coach of the, as yet, unnamed new team.

Don't forget, Erin Phillips was the first marquee player signed by SEQ.

(Given Shannon Seebohm's sudden elevation into Australia's international program, again you cannot help but wonder whether Heal will join Joyce's Opals panel before Oceania or before the Rio Olympics? I'm tipping Rio, because he'll have a WNBL season under his belt by then.)

Joining the dots is an interesting exercise, no?

Meanwhile down Dandenong way, new coach Larissa Anderson will shortly welcome Stephanie Cumming home after the talented swingman played her role in Townsville's 2015 WNBL Championship success.
