'Elite 8' to join BasketballSA Hall of Fame

BASKETBALL SA will induct eight new faces into its prestigious Hall of Fame in an official  ceremony on Thursday, breaking slightly from tradition with no team inducted this year and no-one elevated to "Legend" status ... but only because its nominees were such incredible stand-outs.

The "elite eight", in alphabetical order, are Glenys Bauer, Jo Hill, Rick Hodges, the late Ted Hunt, Ian Laurie, Glenn Marsland, Ilze Nagy and Dean Whitford.

The Class of 2025 represents the very best of us and not only features some of our greatest players, but also coaches and administrators who elevated the sport of basketball to new heights in South Australia and across the world.

National representatives, Olympians, Halls and Woollacott medallists will be there for this gala event, to be hosted by SA's four-time Australian Opals Olympian Laura Hodges.

So just who are the members of the Class of 2025? Read on and find out!

GLENYS "Willi" BAUER (nee Williams): If a single moment was to define Willi's career, it has to be "the Shot." Representing South Australia in the Final against Victoria at the 1969 Australian Championship in Adelaide, the national tournament was the official opening of Apollo Stadium.

Down two in the pre-3-point days and just seconds left, Glenys let fly with a halfcourt shot which swished, sending the Final into overtime where SA prevailed.

An outstanding guard and one of the game's most popular figures, Glenys had a stellar career now recognised with her Hall of Fame induction.

This time she is inducted in her own right as a champion of our sport.
