ICYMI: Jet lag and Jerome

ICYMI: From the "Sunday Mail" last weekend:

JEROME Randle has never felt as “dead” in his life as when he hit the Sydney Entertainment Centre for Friday’s NBL game against the reloaded Kings.

Having arrived in Adelaide on Tuesday after more than 22 hours in the air from Chicago to San Francisco to Sydney to Adelaide, then producing a blistering 24-point debut for the 36ers in their 88-79 win over Cairns on Thursday, the 175cm spinning-top was spent.

“I was so beat,” he confessed on Saturday when the Sixers finally returned home.

“I didn’t have any legs. That first game took everything out of me - I was dead. It was really tough.”

Despite feeling ready to hit the sack, Randle instead helped put the Kings to bed 91-80, mustering 16 points in the process to take his two-game NBL average to 20 per game.

So did he finally pass out onto a doona?

“No, my wife Zhordan and I are moving from our hotel to an apartment,” he said.

“But it’s great because I can get some good home cooking from my wife and I can go and lift (weights) and prepare for this week.”

Ever the professional, Randle, 28, has played in Ukraine, where he is a citizen, Belgium, Israel and Turkey since graduating as the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year with University of California (Berkeley) in 2010.

He has fallen instantly in love with Adelaide.

“This is the best experience of my professional life,” he said.

“These guys are a great group to be around, joking around like one big happy family.

“Joey (Wright) is a great coach and to do what we did as a team I think really showed something.

“To fly in and win the night after playing shows the toughness of this team.”

STARK CONTRAST: Cairns' Markel Starks driving on Jerome Randle in the latter's NBL debut.

Randle said he didn’t feel much in the way of jet-lag in the home win over Cairns on Thursday.

“To be honest, I didn’t feel it too much because I was amped up to win my teammates over and win the fans over,” he said.

“Now we get a chance to build some chemistry and for me to learn the plays.

“I’m very excited about what we can do.”

And Adelaide is very excited about what Randle can do, the 36ers at home again to Cairns on Saturday.
