Jamarvellous across the Finnish line

IF Adelaide 36ers' 2015 MVP Jamar Wilson returns to play NBL next season, he will become the league's first Finnish import.

Wilson, 31, has adopted citizenship in Finland, where his wife Laura was born and where he recently passed stringent testing to become Finnish.

"This is one of the times that I actually feel truly proud of myself and the steps that I took in life to get here to this moment," Wilson said of becoming a Finn.

"I am grateful and extremely lucky to be officially accepted by such a great country."

The decision makes Wilson eligible for the Finland national team. Last year the Finns contested the FIBA World Cup.

"This is one of the most important moments of my life, along with the birth of our child and meeting my wife," said Wilson, pictured above firing over New Zealand's Cedric Jackson.

The New York-born guard has played four years in the NBL, three with Cairns Taipans where he twice was club MVP, and last season with the 36ers.

He won the MVP with the Sixers too.

If he returns, Wilson would not be the first non-American import in the NBL.

That honour belongs to Rimas Kurtinaitis, the Lithuanian superstar who helped launch the Townsville Crocodiles (as the Suns) as one of their inaugural 1993 imports.
