Kings show positive signs
TweetSYDNEY Kings' new lineup showed Sin City's NBL fans they were in for at worst a competitive season with a gritty 85-87 loss last night to University of New Mexico at Bankstown.
The Kings' first preseason match was without either of its US import guards - Jesse Sanders and Charles Carmouche - or two Aussie studs Ben Madgen and Cody Ellis.
But James Harvey stepped up with a timely reminder of how tough he can be when injury-free, delivering a game-high 27 points with seven boards.
AJ Ogilvy's first run in Kings colors produced 22 points at 54 per cent and four boards, Kevin White and Brad Hill adding 12 points apiece at 67 and 71 per cent respectively.
Kendall Williams led the Lobos with 24 points (6 assists, 5 rebs) but Aussies Cam Bairstow (22 at 80%, 6 boards) and Hugh Greenwood (13 at 63%, 3 assists) acquitted themselves well in front of a packed and enthusiastic house at Bankstown Stadium.
Greenwood tweeted post-game: "Had a great time playing in front of my friends and family tonight! Big thanks to the @thesydneykings and @ShaneHeal for hosting us!"
Considering who the Kings were missing, no-one could have been unhappy with the performance.
Sydney faces Butler University at Newington College tomorrow night.
