Long lost Langford back for Lightning
TweetADELAIDE Lightning have taken a strong step toward improving their WNBL standing next season, securing Emma Langford today
Kadina-born Langford played for Adelaide in 2010 before joining Logan Thunder for the past three seasons.
Langford led Logan's scoring last season with almost 13 points a game and was a positive keyway presence for the now sadly defunct club.
New Lightning coach Jeremi Moule said Langford's versatility and experience would be a significant asset.
"Emma's ability to play both the three and four spots will give us some great flexibility," he said.
"Emma is now heading into her eighth WNBL season and at 25 would still expect to have her best basketball ahead of her.
"It'll be great to work with Emma and we're confident she can make a big contribution to the success of the Lightning."
Langford, who currently is averaging 26 points and five rebounds a game for Hobart in the SEABL, is looking forward to returning home to Adelaide.
"Playing in Adelaide will give me a great chance to continue to develop my game and build on my experiences over the past few seasons," she said.
"It's a really exciting time and I'm looking forward to working with Jeremi and my new teammates."
Adelaide has retained Angela Marino and is anxious to keep Opals Laura Hodges and Jenni Screen - currently on tour in the US playing WNBA teams - Jess Foley and Stephanie Talbot.
Melboune Boomers forward Rebecca Allen has drawn interest from Seattle Storm, Lauren Jackson's WNBA club, after strong on-tour performances with the Opals.
Allen had 17 points, including 3-of-3 threes, as Brendan Joyce's young team went down 66-82 to Minnesota Lynx today.
Bendigo Spirit's dual-championship winner and WNBL All Star Gabe Richards, also had 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting.
But Allen caught the Storm's eye in the tour opener, a 68-70 loss in which she hit 16 points.
Lightning co-captain Hodges had 12 points, Canberra's Natalie Hurst with 14.
Hodges led the Opals with 18 points in their 57-71 loss to Seattle at KeyArena.
