NBA East - Knicking off

THE New York Knicks changed their line-up for Game 4, turned up the physicality, altered their plan - they even argued among themselves.

But in the end it counted for zip as Indiana paced itself to a 93-82 Western Conference semi final win, clasping a 3-1 grip on the series, the Knicks facing elimination at home on Friday.

"We're not divided. We need to go get a win. There ain't no time for whatever was said. Ain't no time for it. So we need to stay together in this locker room," veteran reserve forward Kenyon Martin said.

All the blame-game talk and finger-pointing about selfish play only led to another night where Carmelo Anthony finished with 24 points on 9-of-23 shooting before fouling out with two minutes left.

And good old J.R. Smith struggled after a horrific start, missing 10 of his first 11 shots.

The Knicks were out-pounded on the boards  54-36 - Roy Hibbert dominant - as Pacers playmaker George Hill poured in 26 points.

Indiana led by 14 at halftime and by as many as 18 before the Knicks made a late run with a number of too-little, too-late baskets.

Searching for the solution, the Knicks started Martin for Pablo Prigioni but spent most of the time with the bigger lineup taking turns throwing Hibbert to the floor.

They did it three times in the first half - Chandler twice and Martin once.

Amar'e Stoudemire entered the game and almost immediately joined in, fouling Tyler Hansbrough hard just seconds after he took the floor. Then he took a technical less than two minutes in when he shoved Hansbrough.

Is this a team which is together and able to inject some life back into this series?

"Absolutely. Absolutely," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said.

The Pacers-Hawks first round series may not have been of great interest, but even Miami is paying attention now.
