New three Kings all from Sydney

SYDNEY Kings rookie NBL coach Damian Cotter is not only assembling an exciting revamped line-up but doing it with local talent.

The club’s three latest signings – free agent guard Jason Cadee, big men Angus Brandt and Josh Duinker - all are products of NSW Basketball and join Cody Ellis, Tom Garlepp, Ben Madgen and Kevin White for Cotter’s first campaign.

Throw in two imports and the Kings have undergone quite the off-season facelift.

Sydney-born Cadee is a big loss for the Adelaide 36ers but far moreso when considering his potential to be an NBL star of some longevity.

Brandt, 24 and 208cm, attracted attention earlier this month as a member of the Boomers outfit which won the annual Sino-Australia Challenge against China 2-2 on points aggregate.

Brandt has been pacing Oregon State University in the Pacific-12 Conference, averaging 7.3 points and 3.0 rebounds across 125 college appearances.

He delivered 12.6 points at 52 per cent and 3.9 rebounds during the 2013-14 Pac-12 campaign.

“The thing I love the most about Angus is that he’s a self-made player,” Cotter said of his new big.

"Slam" Duinker, 25 and 211cm, like Brandt has been a national representative.

Except Duinker, with dual citizenship, is a current member of the Dutch national team, the Cloggers.

(OK. I may have made that nickname up).

After playing at Richmond University, he has been playing for Dutch club Zorg and Zekerheid Leiden.

In the 2014 EuroChallenge tournament, he averaged 15.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

He previously also played in Spain.

“I first met Josh many years ago through the Australian national junior program,” Cotter said.

“He’s done well in Europe and he’s a guy with a terrific work ethic.

“He’s another mobile big man like Angus Brandt and to get a couple of guys like that who want to work hard and who want to represent their home city is really exciting for the Sydney Kings.”

Kings GM Rod Harys said the three signings were particularly exciting for Sydney because the trio were all local basketball products.

Hary’s did not comment on whether this would be the theme played when his new coach was introduced at Kings home games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VlGyMG0ksg

PS

DEAR Kings tragic Pushpinder Singh. I told you to be patient.

TOMORROW: Take a trip back 25 years as the 36ers take on their arch rivals, the Perth Wildcats.
