Random dribbling: Aussies in NBA
TweetOK, I know Golden State went down in Denver today cutting the Warriors' series lead to 3-2 but you have to love what's been happening in Oakland.
That playoff-starved sell-out crowd went absolutely crazy as the Warriors seized Game 4 and a 3-1 lead and our very own Andrew Bogut sure played his part in it.
Remember, GSW are travelling without their All Star David Lee, who was hurt late in Game 1 and won't be coming back anytime soon.
Bogut's slam down the lane was a gem and the crowd reaction fabulous.
I'm with TNT analyst Charles Barkley when he deduced the Warriors showed some of their youth for portions of the Game 5 loss, probably believing Game 6 back in Oakland was their safety net.
Now they have to hope the Nuggets didn't re-locate their mojo in Game 5.
Regardless, it's been a fascinating series and toupees off to Golden State coach Mark Jackson.
HOW good was London Olympian Aron Baynes, starting for San Antonio in Game 4 against the Lakers at Staples Center, pitted against Dwight Howard?
Coming in for injured starter Tiago Splitter, few would have thought he would be able to frustrate the hell out of Dwight to that extent.
Dwight became Howard the Duck-out, aborting the game with a second tech foul.
In Los Angeles Shaq may once have been The Big Aristotle but Howard surely now has been revealed as The Big Sook.
I may be an orphan here but right now, Marc Gasol at the Grizzlies is about the best centre in the NBA.
Why the Lakers haven't tried to pair him up with big brother Pau - Spain's got that one right - is a mystery.
Yeah, yeah, caps, contracts, deals, I get it. But the Lakers front office has pulled off some terrific coups over the years - Chris Paul notwithstanding.
BUT back to Baynes. His effort was so good, Spurs writer Jeff McDonald was moved to write a terrific piece about him.
Except for one thing. Pretty sure you will spot it, too.
"LOS ANGELES — At this time last year, Spurs center Aron Baynes was at home in Cannes, Australia, with his feet literally almost propped up.
His season had ended in the Greek League, and he had nothing to do but watch the NBA playoffs on television.
Flash forward to Game 4 on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Lakers, and Baynes not only drew his first NBA start in a first-round closeout game of the Western Conference playoffs, he had the unenviable assignment of matching up with Dwight Howard."
OK. You saw it, right?
That's what happens when an American asks you where you were this time last year and you say "Cairns".
He thinks you said "Cannes ".
So Aron, did you attend the Cairns Movie Festival, or what?
