Red-faced Spartans contact the NBL
TweetGOOD news. The bid by Brisbane Spartans to join the NBL in season 2014-15 is actually for real, the potential new club prompted overnight to actually stop talking just to the media and instead to the league.
“Two people from the Spartans sent me emails today in response to your article yesterday at ‘Basketball On The Internet’ so it appears they are more serious than it first appeared,” NBL chief executive officer Fraser Neill told me today.
“Thanks to B.O.T.I, they’ve now made official contact with us,” he laughed.
Neill would not elaborate further on who sent the emails but, considering Spartans chairman Jarrod Sierocki and former NBL off-guard/small forward Rodger Smith were mentioned in previous media dispatches, I am guessing it may have been them.
Good on them too because that now means there are at least two contenders for a Brisbane licence.
As Neill said in yesterday’s story, no-one is especially married to the Bullets nickname either.
Is the Brisbane Bullets brand name tarnished?
Is it strong?
These are issues yet to be addressed but my reliable information is that particular one of what to call a Brisbane NBL team is certainly up for discussion.
TOMORROW: Where Melbourne United got it right, and got it wrong. Yes, I know I promised this today but there should be enough up to keep you sated for one more day!
