Seriously NBL-WNBL...

SERIOUSLY Basketball Australia, NBL and WNBL. Do you ever really want anyone outside the immediate basketball world to take you seriously?

It seems for almost every smart, clever or even innovative thing our erstwhile bodies come up with, they shoot themselves in the foot almost immediately.

Out here in the "Basketball Universe" we blithely accept the regular blues and boneheadedness of our administrators - and may I say, not ALL our administrators, the SEABL seems to have its sheet stacked well for example - but out there in the real world, they just shake their heads in dismay at our sport.

Yesterday when the NBL and WNBL made their breathless announcement this year they jointly would stage a preseason tourney at Dandenong, their release included a web address which revealed, well, nothing.

It was a dead end re the tourney but great if you wanted SEABL playoff news.

Can I just go on record here as saying how pleased I was for the basketball community at large to see that today, the web address does now contain information pertinent to the tournament. It was indeed upgraded. (Someone probably complained or brought it to their attention...?)

Fabulous.

Of course, if you want to know even more, phone the number on the release, the website, and also on the NBL and WNBL pages of 03-97347192.

Did you get it down? Take a second. The number again? 03-97347192.

Even if you don't really need information regarding the tourney just now, go ahead and take a minute and ring the number.

Because as at 12:30pm SA time Saturday, 1pm in the east, (I double-checked again at 6.30pm SA time, 7pm eastern) this is what I got when I dialled it: "Your call could not be connected. Please check the number and try again."

So you know what? I did.

And it was still the same!

Is this stuff really that hard?

FOR those who may be curious, the 36ers beat Elkhart Express in Shenzhen, China last night 88-64.

DJ had 21 points and Schensch 17, with Gibbo in his first outing as a Sixer scoring 13 and Stevie Weigh 11.

The 36ers led the semi-pro team from Indiana 72-47 at the end of the third and had Anthony Petrie in some foul trouble.

Nate Crosswell, in his first game back from Achilles surgery dating into last season, also looked the part.

No, I didn't go searching the universe for a boxscore. The last time I chased a boxscore in China, I couldn't read a word of it and Kevin Rudd was too busy to offer his translation services.

CORIN Henry had 33 points at 60 per cent to lead the Kings to a 98-93 overtime win over a depleted Taipans outfit last night in Tamworth.

Ben Madgen had 19 and initial fears James Harvey may have reinjured his leg apparently are unfounded.

He did tweak his hammy and will be kept out of tonight's re-match as a precaution.

You do have to start worrying a fraction though when you are the dark side of 30 and the soft tissue injuries start lurking largely in your life.

Cam Tragardh debuted for the Taipans with 28 points, Brad Hill 18 and Dusty had a 12-10 points-boards double.

Cairns was minus Shane Edwards and Alex Loughton. Aaron Grabau also did not play as his preseason uniform apparently has also now been retired.
