Sunday snippets: Watch Blitz live

EXPECT the NBL tomorrow to reveal details of its online Blitz broadcast coverage.

League GM Jeremy Loeliger confirmed here on September 7 that all 12 of the Blitz games in Townsville from Wednesday-to-Sunday would be live streamed.

Tomorrow we’ll find out for sure where but I’d expect new broadcast partner Fox to be involved somewhere.

SKTV (Sydney Kings TV) has done the past two Blitzes – in Sydney and Brisbane – and hopefully will be involved to some extent again in Townsville, Matt McQuade and his team of Brad Rosen and Bruce Bolden having steadily become the “voices of the Blitz”.

SO import Ekene Ibekwe has been released by Melbourne United on “compassionate grounds” and former Josh Childress teammate at the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, Hakim Warrick, is being touted as his likely replacement.

This last stretch of the Blitz and on to the season’s tip off doesn’t look like being any less compelling than the past month’s many and varied developments.

PERTH captain Damian Martin yesterday in a practice game against Sydney aggravated the calf strain he suffered ahead of the Boomers’ Oceania campaign against New Zealand last month.

Martin confirmed that by the time you’re reading this, his foot would be in a moonboot and he would be an interested spectator – not participant – at the Blitz.

He may even be racing the clock to be declared ready to play the opening regular season game against the 36ers in Adelaide on October 10.

The Kings won 89-76 with Marcus Thornton scoring 24 and Childress 20 for Sydney. Shawn Redhage had 18 and Casey Prather 16 for the Wildcats, who did not suit Jermaine Beal.

A CHIP off the old block?

Harry Froling fouled out with his fourth and fifth fouls occurring at the 8:18 and 8:07 marks of the third quarter of Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence's Friday night loss to Adelaide 36ers.

It being an exhibition game, Froling was allowed back in and managed to clock seven personals for the game. Even dad never managed that!

BENDIGO has split weekend WNBL preseason hitouts in Ballarat that gave fans more than their money's worth.

Melbourne Boomers beat the Spirit 79-75 in an overtime gem after scores were tied 69-69 at the end of regulation, Elyse Penaluna leading the Boomers with 18 points.

Joy Burke had 17 for Bendigo, Belinda Snell 16, the Spirit today beating Perth Lynx 93-89, Snelly again firing for 22 points.
