The Big Khazzouh comes through

I HAVE a confession to make. Two of my favourite NBL players are Matt Knight and Julian Khazzouh and it sometimes rocks my world they were teammates once for Rob Beveridge at West Sydney.

(For that matter, two of my favourite human beings in this league - Damian Martin and Rhys Carter - also were on that Razorbacks' roster!)

Last week, it was Knight at Perth playing out of his skull and last night it was Khazzouh (Gesundheit!) leading the Kings to the Promised Land over Townsville.

OLD TIMES: Julian Khazzouh, when he was part of the "2K" at West Sydney. Picture: Getty Images

Special K had a steady diet of baskets around the hoop and sweet mid-range jumpers on his way to a game-high 22 points at 76 per cent, with a game-high nine rebounds and six blocks.

Six.

He did it at both ends.

2K, KNIGHT/KHAZZOUH: Some Matt Knight flashbacking at West Sydney.

While all eyes rightly were on the debut of 1,036-game NBA veteran Al Harrington, Khazzouh stole the show and secured the W in superb form.

It's hard to believe he and Knight were the frontcourt towers in Sydney's west. Yes, obviously they were a lot younger - hell, we ALL were - but it also reflects that we've had some pretty decent talent in the NBL well before 2015-16 rolled around.

It's great to have a quality league again, but it has been pretty amazing in the past, too.

SPIRITED FLASHBACK: Yes, it's Bevo and his boys, some of which went on to be NBL superstars.

But it just keeps getting better!

Tonight: NO there won't be any Scottie Wilbekin surprises sprung by Cairns tonight but it also won't be surprised now by what Jerome Randle brings to the table for Adelaide. This should be a ripper as the 36ers are starting to roll and the Taipans are desperate to arrest their slide. I'm sticking with the Sixers.

PERTH so very rarely lose two games in succession - the Wildcats can take some solace from the fact the referee who didn't call a foul on Majok Majok for the contact on his follow-through of his game-saving block on Jermaine Beal has been dropped/suspended - and Illawarra didn't dazzle in Townsville. That said, an upset here wouldn't surprise but it's not what the odds suggest.

Last night: KINGS 87 (Khazzouh 22, Thornton 14, Harrington, Cadee 12, Garlepp 11; Khazzouh 9 rebs; Thornton 4 assts) d CROCODILES 78 (Jett 22, Kay 11, Henry 10; 4 with 5 rebs; Jett, Steindl 3 assts) at The Kingdome, Sydney.
