The King? Or the MVP? Who will reign?

IT tips off tomorrow - easily one of the most talked about NBA Championship Series in history for Australia's ardent followers of The Show - as Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers head into their best-of-seven Finals battle.

The league MVP and arguably its greatest ever shooter, Stephen Curry, and his pacesetting Western Conference Champion Warriors have been one of the most enjoyable and entertaining teams to watch in decades.

It has been four decades since Golden State held up the Championship Trophy, back in 1974-75, and its rise to this point has been steady and consistent.

It has been more than five decades since Cleveland held a national sporting title of any kind and its favourite son, LeBron James, has been on a personal mission to end that drought.

In 1964, the Cleveland Browns won the NFL Championship and since then, the cupboard has been bare for this blue-collar city.

A much younger King James got the Cavs to The Finals in 2007 where they were swept by the San Antonio Spurs.

This time, he promises it to be different.

"We will play our asses off," he said.

For Aussies, the sight of Andrew Bogut lining up for the Warriors and Matthew Dellavedova subbing in for the Cavaliers will be one of unrelenting joy.

For St Mary's College, it will be a coup too, the California-based university last year having its own NBA champion in Aussie guard Patty Mills, and now with its chance to boast another in Dellavedova. Sure can't harm future recruiting.

With the injuries and pain Bogut has been through, the pure determination Dellavedova has shown to get where he is - it's line ball as to who would be the most deserving.

Frankly, what The King has achieved with this support cast is little shy of miraculous. Take him out and slot in whoever you like from this era (no, you can't slot in Larry Bird) and it's uinlikely the Cavaliers would still be playing this season.

And what the Warriors have done for basketball this season in showing how it can and should be played, means few teams deserve the Championship as much.

All I know for sure is we're in for a fun ride and as a nation, we'll come out the other side with a champion again.
