LESS than a fortnight after denying Adelaide 36ers their first NBL Championship in 24 years, Sydney Kings coach Brian Goorjian will return to the scene of the crime, exclusively for the benefit of West Adelaide Bearcats Basketball Club for a two-day series of clinics.
Rightly regarded as Australia's most succesful basketball coach - seven NBL championships and coaching the Boomers to a Bronze Medal at the Tokyo Olympics would attest to that - Goorjian was assistant coach at Geelong Supercats to West Bearcats' playing-coach legend Ken Richardson.
Before coaching Geelong, the late Richardson playing-coached West to an unprecedented five consecutive SA State Championships and also won the 1982 NBL Championship.
At Geelong, Richardson was bench coach and Goorjian his lead assistant. He since has gone on to forge unprecedented success as a pro coach, now bringing that elite experience to West Adelaide.
While still enjoying the glow of his latest NBL championship, Goorjian will headline an exclusive two-day coaching event at the West Adelaide Bearcats Basketball Club on April 16–17 at 50 St Vincent Street, Port Adelaide.
Goorjian will deliver two junior on-court coaching clinics alongside a dedicated “Coach the Coach” session and Q&A, offering a rare opportunity for players and coaches to learn directly from one of the game’s most accomplished figures.
With a further year to run on his latest contract as Sydney Kings coach, he has built a career spanning more than 30 years at the top level.
Across his NBL tenure, he has secured championships with the South East Melbourne Magic (2), South Dragons (1) and Sydney Kings (4), including the memorable 2003-2005 threepeat.
On the international stage, Goorjian served as Head Coach of the Australian Boomers from 2003 to 2008 and again from 2020 to 2024. He carved a historic niche by leading the Boomers to their first-ever Olympic medal, the Bronze of Tokyo.
His global coaching experience includes a decade in China’s CBA League, including six seasons as head coach of the Dongguan Leopards. He returned to the NBL in 2020 with the Illawarra Hawks, taking them to consecutive semi final series before rejoining the Sydney Kings as head coach in 2024.
In recognition of his contribution to the sport, Goorjian was inducted into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
This exclusive event brings Goorjian’s experience directly to the West Adelaide basketball community, creating a unique development opportunity for junior athletes and coaches across South Australia.
