'Night of the Gak' in Cairns, Perth: NBL

In: NBL — Sunday, 14 Jan, 2024

IT was most definitely the "Night of the Gaks", with Cairns' Akoldah Gak setting career-highs with a 21-point, 14-rebound double and South East Melbourne's Gorjok Gak leading the Phoenix with 11 boards. But it was a night to forget for the Adelaide 36ers, before the Wildcats pantsed the Phoenix in Perth.

Major point of difference: NBL

In: NBL — Saturday, 13 Jan, 2024

THE NBL last night threw up two exciting results with a major point of difference - Melbourne beat New Zealand 82-81 in regulation but Illawarra required two overtimes to stall Tasmania 108-107, two one-point thrillers where, unfortunately, some of the officiating was not commensurate with the level of play.

Brad&Boti: Purple rain is falling finely

In: NBL, WNBL — Friday, 12 Jan, 2024

IT WAS mighty tough for former Sydney Kings captain and my Brad&Boti podcast colleague Brad Rosen last night, watching as 12 parachutists in purple uniforms bailed from the kamikaze plane being piloted in the cockpit by Mahmoud Abdelfattah somewhere over Adelaide.

Sydney now at Sixers and Sevens: NBL

In: NBL — Friday, 12 Jan, 2024

ADELAIDE, once more wearing its throwback 1999 NBL (back-to-back) champion uniforms last night took a big chunk out of current back-to-back champion Sydney Kings' dreams of going one better in 2024 with a convincing home win, Trey Kell and Isaac Humphries again at their best but Sunday Dech also sizzling.

Tasmania suddenly a sinking island: NBL

In: NBL — Thursday, 11 Jan, 2024

TASMANIA is bordering on becoming the NBL's "island of irrelevancy" after dropping its road game 77-80 to a Brisbane minus the drive of its scoring wizard Nathan Sobey, but with import Chris Smith reinforcing his bona fides as a player better than a "Sixth Man of the Year" candidate.

In: NBL — Wednesday, 10 Jan, 2024

THE NBL playoff/play-in aspirations of every club not named Melbourne or Perth will go under the microscope across the eight matches in Round 15, our rankings reflecting the wide form variations which have made tipping a nightmare, beyond the always reliable - expecting Bryce Cotton to shine.

NBL TotW14: Great Scott this is a tough one

In: NBL — Tuesday, 9 Jan, 2024

FIVE of the NBL's six winners out of Round 14 had their hands up to get our attention as candidates for our Team of the Week accolade, with only league-leading Melbourne - a strong winner in Sydney but then also a lonesome loser in Adelaide - not qualifying for consideration after splitting its matches.

Breakers on brink, Kings dethroned yet again

In: NBL — Monday, 8 Jan, 2024

BRISBANE yesterday drove a stake through Sydney's dreams of an NBL threepeat, reducing the Kings to mere townsfolk, after Perth shot 39 free throws to stall New Zealand's revival, speculation rampant the Breakers could fold despite last year competing in the championship series and taking it to five games.

Doyle and DJ lead their teams to safety

In: NBL — Sunday, 7 Jan, 2024

A 31-PIECE from Milton Doyle and a 30-piece by Dejan Vasiljevic yesterday set up Tasmania and Adelaide respectively for important home wins, the 36ers celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 1999 NBL championship by donning those classic uniforms and doing what that team did too - beating a Melbourne-based league-leader.

Illawarra stays on the upward swing

In: NBL — Saturday, 6 Jan, 2024

ILLAWARRA's complete and total demolition of a woefully understrength South East Melbourne last night reduced the Phoenix into resembling an ordinary NBL1 team instead of a post-season contender, Sam Froling the clear offensive focus of these new high-flying Hawks.
