THEY were desperately unlucky last round not to snare our WNBL Team of the Week honours, Canberra deemed just that smidgeon more worthy. But there was no way around it and the Flames enter 2024 as our most outstanding outfit of Round 9.

WOW! The WNBL closed 2023 with a gripping round but also with a serious injury to one of the league's marquee imports, Perth Lynx's Aari McDonald. One of the early favourites for league MVP, McDonald injured a knee late in the first quarter, described by the club as a "mild tear."

WNBL Rd8 Wrap: An Eve of Upsets
PERTH, not so unexpectedly, but Melbourne by complete surprise, tonight took us into Christmas Eve by rewarding themselves with upsets, the Lynx stopping Southside in its tracks, the Boomers going back into Chris Lucas' former stomping grounds and taking down the WNBL-leading Fire by 20 points.

OK, there is no doubt Round 7 of the WNBL season produced so many amazing results that nominees for our coveted Team of the Week honours were legion. First there was Perth smashing Sydney, then Canberra breaking through, Adelaide securing a 1-1 split and Townsville on fire. It was no easy choice.
