Time Out - The No Flop Zone is back on YouTube

NBL: There's a foul smell brewing
THE NBL made it clear before the season tipped off it was going to speed up the game - no on-court huddles holding up free throw attempts the most obvious innovation. But when they stop calling obvious and blatant fouls just to keep the game moving along? That's what Round 4 threw up, sadly.

MIKE Kelly may have been the only person last night who did not realise he was coaching for his NBL career when his wayward South East Melbourne served up more dross and another loss for 0-5. Most of the coaches sounded out on the quiet knew if the Phoenix fell to 0-5, the trigger would be pulled on Kelly's tenure.

OK, got a confession to make. Did not look deeply enough into Adam Forde's Cairns Taipans roster or expect Taran Armstrong to be so good so quickly. On the flip side of a happy discovery, WTF was the NBL thinking cutting away from the thrilling Illawarra-Adelaide finish to bring us Sydney-Brisbane preview drivel?
NBL: Flummoxed Phoenix run one good play
PICTURE this. There's 3.1 seconds to go in an NBL ball game. Trailing, South East Melbourne Phoenix coach Mike Kelly takes time-out to draw up a final play. His on-floor team of Ben Ayre, Owen Foxwell, Angus Glover, Malique Lewis and Matt Hurt execute it perfectly to score right on the buzzer.

YES, terrible and self-indulgent TV commentary aside, there was much to enjoy about last round's NBL fixtures, so after last week's blog, let's say turnabout is fair play. There was plenty that resonated (and still much that doesn't) but let's stay positive and open, starting with Justin Tatum.
