Snakes, Hawks caught short by contenders

In: NBL — Friday, 3 Oct, 2025

THE missing pieces and blatant flaws in the lineups of defending NBL champion Illawarra and playoffs wannabe Cairns last night brutally were exposed to the glare of the spotlight as Bryce Cotton led Adelaide and Perth's Jo Lual-Acuil rose to the occasion in respective storming wins.

Lightning finally recognised for greatness

In: WNBL — Thursday, 2 Oct, 2025

PERENNIALLY treated like South Australian sport's red-headed step-child, prepare for an unprecedented golden new era for former WNBL pacesetter Adelaide Lightning, under new management but far more importantly, under new management which finally truly believes in its product.

In: NBL, WNBL — Wednesday, 1 Oct, 2025

THE WNBL quietly had its eight teams under one roof for a preseason tournament in Townsville as the NBL swung through a second round and we finally have seen all 10 teams, creating great fodder for Brad Rosen and I on our Brad&Boti podcast.

What We Learnt #2

In: NBL — Monday, 29 Sep, 2025

THERE were two stand-out facts we learnt from NBL Round 2. Bryce Cotton will be as impactful at Adelaide as he was wherever else it was he played, and no rival big man will be looking forward to tussling with Illawarra's boom recruit Javale McGee. Cotton 'on' in 36ers win and Taipans bite Sydney

In: NBL — Sunday, 28 Sep, 2025

THEY tried, yet again, hard to blow it - this time with considerable "wind assistance" - but Cairns instead upset the Kings in Sydney, while in Adelaide, Bryce Cotton torched Brisbane, producing a timely reminder why he is part of the NBL's all-time great "Holy Trinity" alongside Leroy Loggins and Andrew Gaze.

McGee the Magnificent but Jackies still jumping

In: NBL — Sunday, 28 Sep, 2025

IN a game of extreme momentum shifts, Perth took care of business in New Zealand while three-time NBA champion and USA Olympic gold medallist Javale McGee made a stunning NBL debut with reigning champion Illawarra, but visitor Tasmania still had the answers in front of a sell-out crowd in Wollongong.

McVeigh comes through in near Cairns botch

In: NBL — Saturday, 27 Sep, 2025

JACK McVeigh tickled a triple-double as Cairns tried hard to lose its first NBL home game of the season against Brisbane, but failed and prevailed 83-82 anyway, the Bullets simply unable to fully utilise dominant centre Tyrell Harrison with the game and the road win there for the taking.

Phoenix phail as Melbourne rampage home

In: NBL — Friday, 26 Sep, 2025

SOUTH East Melbourne coach Josh King had it right post the Phoenix's 20-point loss to crosstown rival United last night when he said: "It was a man's game and we weren't ready to play like men." Consequently Melbourne went on a rampage to seize a 20-9 edge in all-time "Throwdown" matches.

Townsville the target for WNBL preseason tip

In: WNBL — Thursday, 25 Sep, 2025

SO much has happened in the WNBL's off-season with the league under a new ownership model and finally being treated with the respect and professionalism it long has warranted but never seemed able to grasp. Champions, superstars, Olympians, WNBA imports - we've known it all along but now, at last, the mainstream world is being exposed to our talented women's comp.
