NBL: Seriously, this was a Final?

In: NBL — Wednesday, 12 Feb, 2025

SERIOUSLY. What the hell was that, NBL? Officiating which left a LOT to be desired, 2,975 fans - the lowest crowd of Season 2024-25 - in attendance, Bryce Cotton scoring more than half his 27 points from the free throw line ... If it wasn't for a Keanu Pinder tour de force, last night's 3v4 finals tip-off would belong in a rubbish bin.

In: NBL — Saturday, 8 Feb, 2025

THE NBL was swift in its reaction to Sydney Kings guard Jaylen Adams poking at the eyes of Illawarra's Wani Swaka Lo Buluk in a fiery exchange in the Hawks' 95-75 rout before Bryce Cotton's 49-point haul in the Wildcats' 112-104 win over Adelaide confirmed he again would be MVP.

ILLAWARRA clinching the NBL's 2024-25 regular season championship has set up the Hawks of likely Coach of the Year Justin Tatum for their first genuine run at a championship since being swept by arch rival Sydney in 2005's 3-0 best-of-five rout. Vale the trailblazers Longley and Hughes

In: Boomers & Opals, SA — Sunday, 2 Feb, 2025

THE deaths within a few days of each other last month of Rick Longley and Alan Hughes served again as a potent reminder of our own mortality, especially when basketball players who rightly were legends of their own eras so suddenly leave us.

WNBL: Sydney's Swain scraps the Caps

In: WNBL — Friday, 31 Jan, 2025

SYDNEY Flames guard Shaniece Swain last night most likely slammed shut the door on the WNBL's Final Four with a 36-point haul in Canberra, leading the visitors to a thrilling 92-88 overtime victory for a 7-11 win-loss mark and a season-series win over the Caps. The door most definitely is shut, but not quite locked.
