36ers wait on Randle

JEROME Randle, the playmaking import who has taken the NBL by storm, will know the extent of his left knee injury after scans tomorrow.

But the Adelaide 36ers, who usually err on the side of conservatism, seem reasonably positive the league's leading scorer has not suffered any structural damage.

"We're waiting to see but it looks favourable," 36ers coach Joey Wright said in the aftermath of the Sixers' fighting 104-90 home win over Illawarra, after trailing 74-75 with a period to play.

Ebi Ere led the scoring with 28 points and had great help from Lucas Walker, Mitch Creek and Daniel Johnson, with Nathan Sobey also a factor.

Illawarra left too much to too few, neither team assisted by one of the most unfathomable officiating performances of the century.

Both Wright and Rob Beveridge were at best dismayed, at worst disgusted by a convoluted and at best, confused refereeing performance.

It again raised the question as to why the NBL ever changed course on its officiating, considering the two years of groundwork Mal Cooper, Ray Hunt and Bill Mildenhall had done.

With many aspects of the game out of control, an injury should have been no surprise.

Kelly Barnes of AllStar Photos was on hand to catch the action of Randle's plight in the following sequence.

Randle's left ankle buckles as he's challenged and fouled by AJ Ogilvy.

He hits the Titanium Security Arena hardwood hard.

Randle writhes as the pain sets in.

It doesn't look too good, 7,493 fans at TSA holding their breaths..

Helped from courtside, Sobey subs in to take and make the free throws.

Back to watch the game with his knee icing.

Can't believe what just happened...

Randle salutes his team's effort.

Randle leaves the court confines, possibly wondering what today's scans may reveal.
