BOB'S NBA UPDATE: Time for some playing play in

BOB 'S UPDATE: The NBA regular season ended last night, and the playoff positions are now set.  The 82-game regular season grind has finally ended. The 20 playoff teams will start the postseason Tuesday.

Going into a bonkers final day of the regular season on Sunday, very little of the playoff picture was settled.

Maybe it's parity, or maybe it's just that the final day of the NBA regular season should be wild.

In the Western Conference, OKC, Minnesota and Denver were all in a flat-footed tie for the top spot with identical won-loss records - omething that has never happened before.

Tiebreaker records favoured OKC for top seed, then Minnesota for second, then Denver for third, if they all finished in a tie after Sunday.  OKC won and is top seed, Minnesota lost and slipped to the third seed, as Denver's win allowed it to leapfrog Minnesota into the second seed.

Going into last Saturday's games, the only playoff spots already settled were: Boston wins the Eastern Conference with the league's overall best record and has home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

In the West, the Clippers are No.4 and will open the playoffs against No.5 Dallas, and No.9 Chicago plays host to No.10 Atlanta in an East play-in game.

Of the 20 postseason seeds, 15 weren't decided until after Sunday's season-ending games.

THE top six teams from each conference head directly to the playoffs, while team Nos.7-10 will enter the play-in tournament.

Two teams in each conference will then emerge to fill out the eight-team field, with the first round starting next Saturday.

Eastern Conference Bracket:
Play-in tournament:

No. 8 Miami at No. 7 Philadelphia (Wednesday)
No. 10 Atlanta at No. 9 Chicago (Wednesday)
Winner 9/10 at loser 7/8 (Friday) to determine the No. 7&8 seeds in the first round of the Playoffs.

First Round:  Best of 7 starts Saturday.
No. 1 Boston vs No. 8 (loser of the play-in above)
No. 2 New York vs No. 7 (76ers or Heat)
No. 3 Milwaukee vs No. 6 Pacers
No. 4 Cleveland vs No. 5 Orlando

Western Conference Bracket:
Play-in Tournament:

No.8 Lakers at No. 7 New Orleans (Tuesday)
No.10 Golden State at No. 9 Sacramento (Tuesday)
Winner 9/10 at loser 7/8 (Friday)

First Round:  Best of 7 starts Saturday.
No.1 OKC vs No. 8 (loser of Friday game above)
No. 2 Denver vs No. 7 (Suns or Lakers)
No. 3 Minnesota vs No. 6 Phoenix
No. 4 LA Clippers vs No. 5 Dallas

HERE'Ss an interesting side note to the NBA season.

Controversial Warriors' forward Draymond Green is no stranger to finishing games with unorthodox stat lines.

He is one of just 15 players in NBA history to finish a game with a 5 x 5 stat line (at least 5 points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks in a single game).

He has also notched a triple double with 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals, in that game he also missed a second 5 x 5 game by one point.

He's also had a double double game of 14 rebounds, 14 assists and six assists (against OKC).  But he outdid himself this past Saturday with an historic double double:  first person ever to record a double double (10+ rebounds and 10+ assists) without attempting any shots - no field goal attempts and no FT attempts!
