Lightning sparking the Storm

ADELAIDE LIGHTNING captain Stephanie Talbot will be back for the Seattle Storm this year, the WNBA club keen to reassemble as much of its 2021 team as possible now it has retained Breanna Stewart who was being heavily courted by Sandy Brondello's New York Liberty.

Talbot, a Rio and Tokyo Olympian for Australia's Opals, has signed a one-year contract extension to stay in Seattle.

The Storm look to be almost identical in terms of players for next season to the one that was unlucky to finish out of the finals last season, thanks to Stewart missing much of it recovering from her Achilles surgery.

A versatile 188cm off-guard or small forward, Talbot, 27, currently is in Belgrade, Serbia with the Opals for the 2022 FIBA World Cup qualifiers, even though as host nation Australia is automatically qualified.

The games instead will form an important component of Australia's preparation for its first women's Worlds at home since Oz94 in 1994.
