Flyers can expect G.O.A.T. to bump Boomers to oblivion

MELBOURNE Boomers fans, be warned. If your team beats Southside tonight in Game 3 of the WNBL's semi final series, it will need to have stopped the G.O.A.T., Lauren Jackson to do it. Remember what happened at the FIBA World Cup in 2022 when, at 41, she thought she was playing her last international?

She went off for 30 points and Australia beat Canada in the Bronze Medal playoff game.

Did you see what happened last month in Brazil when she again was an Opal and they needed to beat Germany to clinch Paris Olympics qualification?

She raised her game again and Australia killed them. Already on the record now for saying "mission accomplished", she has hung up her international boots, her WNBL retirement also is very much on the cards.

And our greatest basketball player will definitely not want to close the book on the Australian game's most illustrious career with a loss.

Lauren Jackson, superstar, will be all that and more tonight as she looks to close the season with a WNBL championship.

Defying the odds and an injury list long enough to startle any reputable hospital's emergency ward, the Boomers have been amazing to bring this series to a decider.

Southside is likely to come out as hard and up-tempo as possible and with Melbourne's ranks constantly thinning, coach Chris Lucas once again will need to use some tactical creative magic to secure the upset.

Stacked and healthy, there really is no reason the Flyers should not win this and win it well.

The Boomers will play on heart and effort, which is why the game should still be a great contest. But Perth should expect to be facing Flyers for the flag.
