Loving Amoore but whoa, don't forget Poa

AUSTRALIA will have a player contesting the NCAA Division 1 Women's championship in Dallas, with Ballarat's Georgia Amoore pacing Virginia Tech and Melbourne's Last-Tear Poa a key rotation player for its Final Four semifinal opponent Lousiana State University.

A 180cm shooting guard, Poa is in her sophomore college season after being considered the top JUCO transfer in the country. She was a freshman at Northwest Florida State college where she led the Raiders to a NJCAA National Championship.

Along the way she earned NJCAA Tournament MVP honours, averaging 23.0 points and 40 minutes, while shooting 44.9 per cent from the field and 43.5 per cent from beyond the arc.

She was named the FCSAA Player of the Year following the 2021-22 season after averaging 14.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

Poa played 23 minutes in LSU's 66-63 Sweet Sixteen win over Utah.

Despite still being in her junior season, Amoore has been Virgina Tech's starting PG for the past two seasons and its second-leading scorer, her 24 points in their 84-74 Elite Eight win over Ohio State a timely reminder she is at the top of her game.

The 168cm playmaker is a joy to watch in action.

The No.1 overall seed South Carolina Gamecocks are looking to win back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and are riding a 42-game winning streak heading into their semifinal against Iowa Hawkeyes.

Virginia faces LSU tomorrow morning, with the South Carolina-Iowa semi to follow. The two winners will meet in Sunday's championship game.
