WNBL TotW11: A most spirited and overdue debut

THEY did it. Yes, it took until Round 11 of the WNBL season and while they have threatened a couple of times, our Team of the Week makes its first appearance of the 2023-24 season after showing a clean pair of heels to opponents.

No, it isn't Southside Flyers, who have yet to crack our Team of the Week accolade, although in Round 11, they were our runners-up.

Their victory over fellow finals wannabes Sydney, with Lauren Jackson turning back the clock, was chock full of merit.

So too was Melbourne Boomers' effort in turning around a 12-point home loss to defending champion Townsville by spanking the Fire a couple of days later by 36!

But a weekend split usually means you cannot have been the round's best so ultimately, this one was easy.

First up Bendigo smashed Adelaide Lightning by 28 points, that triumph built on a withering 33-15 opening quarter.

Then the Spirit entertained giant-killing Canberra and after scores were tied 45-45 at halftime, again produced an offensive assault to the tune of 30-11 in the third quarter.

That attack included a 15-0 run after Bendigo trailed in the period!

In total, Bendigo won its two matches by 50 points!

That's impressive.

A preseason that was second-to-none finally has born fruit with Bendigo now a definite playoff outsider at best, but a monumental playoff decider at worst.

Congratulations to Coach Kennedy Kereama and his burgeoning team
