The Great Aussie Basketball Quiz

SO, you think you know all there is about Australian basketball. You know our connections to the NBA and WNBA, the histories of the Boomers and Opals, and, naturally, anything worth knowing of the NBL and WNBL, right? OK then, here it is! The first annual "Great Aussie Basketball Quiz" for fans of the game who think they know it all.

Just a mere 10 questions – and one bonus picture question – that’s all we’re posing here today. And we’ll give you all the answers. But NOT until tomorrow!

We reckon even the great Statman might struggle with a couple of these questions.

And if you think you’ve beaten this – and it is genuinely a tough quiz – then drop us the answers at botirnagy@gmail.com if you dare.

Of course, if you go to Google or other such sources for the answers, well, consider yourself out of the competition because you are missing the point.

We're working on the honour system here - you know, like that episode of Seinfeld when Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer had the infamous "contest"?

This quiz is for those who genuinely think they know this stuff and love a challenge.

And a challenge it most surely is!

Answers tomorrow. Good luck, and if you can nail 7 or more, consider yourself an Australian basketball guru! Truly.

Q1   What is the highest score by an individual in an NBL 40-minute game?
Q2   Who was the player who scored it?
Q3   What is the highest score by an individual in a WNBL game?
Q4   Who was the individual who scored it?
Q5   Who is the first player to win the NBL’s Best Defensive Player award and also have a 40-point scoring game?
Q6   Who has played the most number of WNBL games?
Q7   Who was the first Australian drafted into the NBA?
Q8   Who was the first Australian signed into the WNBA?
Q9   Name the four Australian Boomers who have top scored at an Olympic Games?
Q10 Which player was named tournament MVP when the Australian Opals won FIBA World Championship Gold in 2006?

Bonus question: Who is this former NBL coach, dribbling the ball while playing at the Australian Championships in the 60s?

OK? How did you go? Hopefully, you snagged a few but you will know for sure tomorrow when we give you all the answers. No cheating now. Trust your memory and your brain. You know, like the good old days where most of these questions are from!
