Wildcats, United to hit Adelaide in short order

THE NBL will release its 2014-15 draw on Wednesday and 36ers fans won't have long to wait to see last season's semi and Grand Final opponents at Adelaide Arena.

The rebranded Melbourne Tigers, who lost an epic three-game semi final in Adelaide, run into the Sixers on Saturday, November 15 but now as the new-look Melbourne United.

(Let's hope Melbourne City aren't in town the same weekend to keep the confusion to a minimum.)

Less than a week later, the 36ers will host reigning champion Perth Wildcats on Friday, November 21.

Of side interest will be in which round Adelaide fans get to see Perth's 2014 Rookie of the Year and current Boomer centre Tom Jervis.

My info is the Tigers, oops, sorry, UNITED have put a great offer to Jervis and the chance for the big fella to play under NBA-experienced, Olympian and league MVP centre Chris Anstey has plenty of cache.

Jervis was under Perth's nose for a fair while, after all. But my info also is that he is a bit of a home body and may be reluctant to leave Perth and the Wildcats organisation.

So will he be in Perth red, United navy or ... Crocodile green?

Yes, Townsville, with former Perth-based coach Shawn Dennis now running the show, also has put an offer to Jervis.

How life has changed for the big fella in a meagre 12 months, eh?

Talking Townsville, free agent and 2012 London Olympian Peter Crawford, a selection in the club's 20 year all-time great team, is heading to the south of Australia, if I have deciphered some cryptic clues correctly.

(Pretty sure you can decipher mine.)

SOME of the best young basketball players in Australia have spent the Queen's Birthday long weekend competing in the Classics and other tournaments in Melbourne and Victoria.

If you are keen to see what excitement the future holds, check out the finals today.

And a safe trip to all the interstate and country-based teams, players, family and friends on the roads going home.

WHEN you get paid anywhere near $1million or more to play sport, you are already seriously spoilt so without getting into the merits or otherwise of playing in a hot stadium, or a non-air conditioned venue, I just hope one team handles the Heat better again today.
