WNBL PotW: This effort is a head turner

THERE again was no shortage of candidates for Basketball On The Internet's WNBL Player of the Week his round, but in the end, the choice was obvious.

Melbourne Boomers import Lindsay Allen was right up there again, with 23 points and six assists in the rout of Canberra, then 28 and five in knocking over Townsville.

That's a fine round's average of 25.5 points and 5.5 assists in two wins. Teammate Cayla George came out of the sweep averaging 14 points and 9.5 rebounds to also warrant consideration.

Sara Blicavs had her best game as a Flyer, with a season-high 23 points in their win over Bendigo.

But the bouquet of flowers this week belongs to Adelaide Lightning import Brianna Turner for her standout performance in their overtime road win over the Lynx in Perth.

Turner delivered a game-high 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting (64 percent) with 17 rebounds, two assists, a steal and two blocks.

The 23-year-old American dominated overtime after her last basket in regulation made it 79-79 to force the five-minute extension.

Turner scored the first six points when the game resumed to push Lightning 85-79 clear, blocked a shot attempt by Nadeen Payne and grabbed a big defensive rebound.

And it was Turner again snaring the defensive rebound on Marena Whittle's miss for the tie, Perth down 86-89, fouling the import whose free throw steered Adelaide safely across the line.

It was a performance which stood apart for our Player of the Week.
