WITH only two teams remaining undefeated after just two rounds of WNBL play, it was another tough call to isolate our Team of the Week, especially with Mercedes Russell and Maddi Rocci also leading Southside to two big road wins.

The Flyers smacking the Capitals in Canberra was no great surprise but toppling defending champion Townsville in Townsville, and in so doing ending the Fire’s 17-game winning streak, did take some doing.

The Lynx, our Round 1 Team of the Week, were up again for consideration after staving off, then running over Adelaide.

But having the benefit and comfort of a second straight home game in the west ate into their bona fides, leaving only the Flyers and Melbourne Boomers competing for the Round 2 crown.

Southside winning its second game on a two-leg trip stood it in very good stead until considering the fact the Boomers have gone to 3-0 and have yet to play a match at home.

Going into Sydney to face a Flames team rejuvenated by its win over Bendigo and playing in front of a growing crowd with the Sydney-Brisbane NBL leg of their double-header looming, again had the Boomers under huge pressure.

The Flames started strongly and led 16-9 before Melbourne was able to start rolling, led by Keely Froling and the consistency of Tera Reed.

To come out of Sydney with another great win and to have import combo guard Jordin Canada still running the point in the absence of injured PG pair Kristy Wallace and Aimee Rocci, was an amazing achievement.

Canada paired 20 points with 13 assists as Melbourne again dug deep, Sara Blicavs with her best performance as a Boomer and Naz Hillmon solid again, underpinning the 95-80 win.

Yep, it's the Boomers scoring our hard-won Team of the Week accolade.
