WNBL TotW6: Three thrillers, three killers

OVERTIME again, three games decided by a single basket and three others by a total of 85 points, it sure was a fascinating Round 6 of the WNBL and another one where selecting our Team of the Week was no picnic. Sydney winning twice was meritorious but both times by two points suggested the Flames just as easily could have come home 0-2.

Perth lost at home but recovered sufficiently to beat Lightning in Adelaide in overtime, but not before having to haul back from a 20-point deficit.

Southside smacked Bendigo and Townsville gave Canberra a hiding to reinforce they remain in the top tier of teams for the title.

But the biggest turnaround was produced by Melbourne Boomers who were league leaders at 5-0 before Perth came to town and whacked them by 17 in Round 5.

That was on Sunday. On Thursday in Perth, the Boomers delivered a stunning four-day, 48-point turnaround, sinking the Lynx 93-62 after trailing 17-22 after one.

Sara Blicavs and Naz Hillmon got the ball rolling, then Keely Froling delivered and Aimie Rocci contributed in many non-stats sheet ways, doing a job on Miela Goodchild and Aari McDonald.

Jordin Canada was two rebounds short of a triple-double, adding 10 points and 12 assists.

Tera Reed's 13 points came on a perfect 4-of-4 from the floor, Penina Davidson, Monique Conti and Sherrie Calleia all providing invaluable back-up minutes.

This was a statement win and certainly one worth recognition for Melbourne as our Team of the Week.
