WWC: Aussies draw Belgium in quarterfinals
TweetAUSTRALIA's Opals will face Belgium in a KO quarterfinal tomorrow for the chance to advance to the FIBA Women's World Cup semifinals and within touching distance of a medal podium finish. The fixture at Qudos Bank Arena tips off at 8.30pm and sure to draw another loud and supportive crowd for the home team.
Australia finished its Group B intrapool play with a 4-1 win-loss record, the same as Canada. But the Opals took first place courtesy of their head-to-head result with Canada, a 75-72 win.
Group A's final order was: 1 USA, 2 China, 3 Belgium, 4 Puerto Rico.
Group B finished as: 1 Australia, 2 Canada, 3 Serbia, 4 France.
The quarterfinal draw is:
USA v Serbia at 12:00; Canada v Puerto Rico at 2.30pm; China v France at 6pm; Australia v Belgium at 8.30pm.
If the Opals beat Belgium, they would face the winner of the China-France quarterfinal in the semi final round.
It would mean potentially not seeing the defending champion Gold Medallist USA until the Final.
